ComfortWise® Green Benefits & Features
Conserving Resources, Preserving the Environment, and Measuring the Impact
ComfortWise® Green (CWG) homes are designed and built for energy efficiency and resource conservation. These homes
have been independently inspected to verify that they conserve resources and preserve the environment. CWG homes are
certified under both the ComfortWise and California Green Builder® programs. As a result, CWG home owners enjoy lower
utility bills, more comfort, quality construction, conservation of natural resources, healthier indoor air and the overall feeling of
doing something good for the environment.
The Components
HIGHER ENERGY STANDARDS: CWG homes exceed strict California Energy Efficiency Standards by at least 15%
and are inspected by California Energy Commission (CEC) certified 3rd party inspectors, who have been additionally
trained as California Green Builder raters.
WATER CONSERVATION: CWG homes use at least 20,000 gallons less water per year than similar “non-green”
homes by featuring innovative designs in plumbing and irrigation OR through enrollment in the Metropolitan Water
District of California’s friendly water conservation program.
WOOD CONSERVATION: CWG homes use wood from managed forests that harvest timber at a rate that can be
permanently sustained, while leaving the environment intact, enhanced, or restored. The homes also use engineered
wood, which minimizes wood waste.
ADVANCED VENTILATION DESIGN AND INSTALLATION: CWG homes ensure comfort and adequate ventilation by
using engineered heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, tight ducts, MERV 6 filters and low or no VOC for
paints, lacquers, floor underlayment and carpet.
WASTE DIVERSION AND RECYCLING: The CWG program requires that at least 50% of waste generated while the
house is being built is diverted from local landfills. In addition, items such as cement, wood, drywall and cardboard are recycled.
