ComfortWise® energy efficient homes perform like no other
The ComfortWise® family of programs, ComfortWise®, ComfortWise® Green, and ComfortWise®
NEAR Zero Energy Neighborhoods (ZEN), are designed and built for energy efficiency and have been independently inspected for quality.
ComfortWise is a “turn-key” energy efficiency program that requires an HVAC system designed by a licensed mechanical engineer or licensed contractor using Air Conditioning Contractors of American Manuals D, J and S methodology, the industry standard for the proper design and installation of HVAC systems; inspections and diagnostics; and specific energy features. The homes are at least 15% more efficient than the code requires. ComfortWise® Green includes all aspects of ComfortWise coupled with the resource efficiency (waste, water, wood) requirements of the California Green Builder program. ComfortWise®
NEAR ZEN, also based on ComfortWise requirements, increases the home’s efficiency to 35% above code and adds solar electricity to further reduce energy usage.
ConSol, an energy consulting firm, has designed new residential construction energy efficiency (EE) programs for Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and Sierra Pacific Power. It developed its own comprehensive ComfortWise® program in 1998, which became Southern California Edison’s (SCE) and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E)’s program for a number of years. The ComfortWise program contracted its 100,000th home in 2006 impacting about 14% of the California and Nevada production home markets.
